Laboratory director: Gao Pingjin
Previous director: Zhu DingLiang
Research directions and distinctive features:
1. Screening of hypertension-related genes and research of their functions
Hypertension-related genes are screened through large-scale SNP detection with the Chinese population as the target. At present we have established high-quality DNA specimens and data bank. The total number in the DNA specimens bank has reached nearly 10,000 cases including nucleus family tree, sibling pairs, twins, Northern isolated population and the She nationality isolated population.
2. Research of transduction mechanism of cardiovascular-remoulded cell signals
With tunica adventitia vasorum as the starting point the cell transduction mechanism of phenotypic transformation of adventitial fibroblast is studied. This experimental group is one of the few research groups internationally engaged in research of the relationship between tunica adventitia vasorum and vascular remoulding.
Main large-scale instruments and apparatuses:
1£® Electric focusing double-direction electrophoretic apparatus
2£® Biologic safety cupboard (superclean table)
3£® Reverted microscope
4£® Fluorescent microscope
5£® Programmed cooling instrument
6£® Microoperative guidance system
7£® Bench-type supercentrifuge
8£® Analytical system for fluorescent difference display
9£® Fluorescent quantitative PCR instrument

A brief introduction
Established in May 1999 Shanghai Key Laboratory of Vascular Biology relies on and is supported by Shanghai Institute of Hypertension of Shanghai Second Medical University. In June 2001 this Laboratory passed acceptance check and in Aug. 2002 was evaluated. At present it has a staff of 15 persons, among whom are 6 persons with senior academic titles, 4 persons intermediate and 5 persons junior. In May 2003 the Laboratory moved to Science and Technology Building of Ruijin Hospital with an area of 300m2, complete facilities and an excellent environment.
The researches of Shanghai Key Laboratory are screening hypertension-related genes through large-scale SNP detection, establishing high-quality DNA specimen and data bank including nucleus family tree, sibling pairs, twins, Northern isolated population and the She nationality isolated population with the total number in DNA specimen bank of nearly 10,000 cases with tunica adventitia vasorum as the starting point and research of cell transduction mechanism of phenotypic transformation of adventitial fibroblast. This experimental group is one of the few research groups internationally engaged in research of the relationship between tunica adventitia vasorum and vascular remoulding. The Laboratory also carries out test services such as ACE gene genotype test and analytical statistics of fluorescent difference display etc.
In recent years the laboratory has undertaken over 10 research projects of State and Shanghai Municipality, obtaining total expenses for scientific research of over RMB 20 million yuan. In addition the Laboratory has established relationships of cooperative research with State Southern Center of Human Genome, Open Laboratory of Cell Institute of Chinese Academy of sciences, U.S., France and Canada etc. for jointly carrying out cooperative research.
A brief introduction of person in charge
Gao Pingjin, female, research fellow, deputy director of Shanghai Hypertension Institute, director of Shanghai Key Laboratory of Vascular Biology and leader of Project Group of Health Science Center of Life Science Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1985 she obtained her master degree (internal cardiovasology) of Shanghai Second Medical University, in 1994 her Ph. D degree (internal cardiovasology) of this University. In 1995 and 1999 she successively twice went to CNRS as a researcher of Sino-French Advanced Plan for cooperative research of mechanism of hypertensive vascular remoulding. At the beginning of the 90¡¯s she carried out research of mechanism of hypertensive vascular remoulding respectively as a person in charge of the projects of Ministry of Public Health and Education Commission and accumulated considerable experiences and laid an excellent foundation in making experiments in respect of mechanism of hypertensive vascular remoulding with an emphasis on tunica adventitia vasorum. In recent years as a person in charge of the State projects, she has accomplished 1 State ¡°863¡± Plan ¡°Establishment of DNA Specimens and Information Bank of Hypertensive Big Family Tree and Isolated Population¡±, 1 State ¡°973¡± Sub-project ¡°Effect of Differentiation of Cardiovascular Cells and Phenotypic Transformation in Cardiocerebrovascular Remoulding¡± and 1 general project of State Natural Science Fund ¡°Role of Osteopontin in Vascular Remoulding¡±. In recent years she has published several dozen papers both at home and abroad.
