Chen Saijuan, female, born in 1951, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering of China, professor of the Shanghai Second Medical University, research fellow, director of Ph.D. students, tenured professor of Ruijin Hospital. In 1971 she graduated from the Shanghai Second Medical University, in 1981 obtained her master degree in medicine and in 1989 her Ph.D. degree in science in Paris No.7 University, France. She is now executive director of Shanghai Hematology Institute, director of Key Laboratory of Medical Genome and representative of 10th National People¡¯s Congress. Prof. Chen Saijuan is mainly engaged in research of tumor cytogenetics and molecular genetics and on the basis of analysis of a large number of leukemic karyotypes, discovered leukemia with translocation of a group of new chromosomes, achieving a series of creative results in research of cellular and molecular mechanism of the occurrence and development of multiple kinds of leukemia. She was the first internationally to clone the cluster region of the new cleavage point of BCR gene first intron with acute leukemia of Ph L chromosome, which was named m-BCR. She also cloned such three NUP98 interrelated fusion genes as NUP98-HOXC 11, NUP98-PMX 1 and NUP 98-HOXA9 and HRX-EEN fusion gene. She was also the first internationally to discover APL variant chromosome translocation t (11:17) and cloned PLZF gene with chromosome No.11 inflicted, which was our country¡¯s first disease-related gene cloned by ourselves with accomplishment of full gene DNA sequencing. She has paid attention to the combination of basic and clinical medicine, organized and participated in directing research of molecular mechanism and therapeutics of cell differentiation and apoptosis induction of leukemia. In tumor research she has also established and developed a complete set of diagnostic mark standard of molecular cellular genetics and molecular biology of leukemia and established the animal models of transplantation and transgenic leukemia, providing excellent models for research of molecular mechanism of the occurrence of leukemia at the cellular and entire animal level and mechanism of induction and differentiation of leukemia. She has won 9 Prizes of Science and Technology at State and provincial levels including a second Prize of Natural Science of State and the titles at State level of Model Worker Nationwide, ¡°March 8th¡± Red Banner Winner Nationwide and Woman Staff Member with Ten Good Points Nationwide etc.. |  | |
